Our Catamaran Tour to Capri was simply stunning. We chose the 'Cooking class on Board' option and tasting a plate of spaghetti made with our own hands off the Faraglioni Rocks was magical

Italy’s Amalfi Coast is renowned for its stunning beauty, and it has become a “must-see” location for travelers. With its picturesque landscapes and iconic villages, it’s both breathtaking and heavily visited, offering an experience that can be as rewarding as it is frustrating. For those looking to escape the chaos of Naples, just an hour away to the north, the Amalfi Coast provides the perfect retreat.Among the coastal gems, three towns stand out as highlights of the region. Positano, with its luxurious, almost surreal ambiance, feels like a live version of a high-fashion advertisement, attracting those looking to experience the Italian glamour. Amalfi, a historic town, evokes the grandeur of a time when small Mediterranean towns controlled vast fleets and were powerhouses of commerce and culture. Ravello, on the other hand, offers a more serene and refined atmosphere, with a palace-like charm that invites you to explore its regal history.Sorrento serves as the perfect base to explore the Amalfi Coast. Located conveniently with easy access by train and bus from Naples, this city is the ideal jumping-off point for your adventure. From here, you can choose between bus and taxi rides to the coast. The bus, while budget-friendly and easily available, travels along one of the most scenic yet winding routes in the world. With towering cliffs on one side and breathtaking views of the Mediterranean on the other, the journey is nothing short of spectacular. However, the narrow, twisty roads are not for the faint-hearted, especially during peak times, when police are stationed to manage the traffic and ensure everyone’s safety. If you’re willing to splurge, hiring a private driver in Sorrento can elevate your experience on the Amalfi Coast. While it may seem like an indulgence, this option allows you to avoid long waits for public transportation and offers the freedom to stop and explore at your leisure. With a local driver, you’ll also gain valuable insights into the region’s history and culture, enhancing your visit. When you split the cost with a small group, the experience becomes even more worthwhile, offering a blend of comfort, convenience, and local knowledge. For an unforgettable stay along the coast, Positano is top recommendation. About an hour’s drive from Sorrento, this town sits on one of the most dramatic sections of the Amalfi Coast, with buildings stacked up a ravine, all leading down to the picturesque harbor. The town’s narrow pedestrian-only streets are filled with charm, and getting from one place to another involves either walking up or down steep hills, giving Positano an old-world, time-warp feel. Thanks to strict building regulations, the town has retained its traditional charm, with shallow, white rooftops filled with sand. These rooftops serve as natural insulation, keeping the interiors cool during the summer and warm in the winter, enhancing the authenticity of the experience.Positano offers a laid-back yet luxurious experience, where the main activities revolve around eating, shopping, and soaking in the stunning views. The town has a selection of charming cafés, art galleries, and boutique shops offering local specialties, such as hand-painted ceramics, linen products, and custom-made leather sandals. While in Positano, take your time browsing the shops, and enjoy a refreshing shot of limoncello while you wait for your leather sandals to be perfectly fitted. Once ready, you'll walk away with a unique and wearable souvenir of your stylish time in Positano.About an hour from Positano lies the town of Amalfi, which, while appearing unassuming today, was once a maritime powerhouse during the 10th and 11th centuries. At its peak, Amalfi's fleet rivaled the great maritime republics of Genoa, Pisa, and Venice. However, in the 1300s, the town suffered a devastating tsunami followed by a plague, which led to its decline. Despite this, Amalfi retains a sense of its former grandeur, particularly in its cathedral, which houses the remains of St. Andrew. The town credits him with calming a storm in 1544, which saved Amalfi from a pirate attack. The cathedral’s Cloister of Paradise, a peaceful garden with 120 elegant columns, provides a tranquil spot to rest and admire the beauty of this historical site.A must-see in Amalfi is its Museum of Paper, located in a 13th-century paper mill. The guided tour offers insight into the town’s long history of papermaking, showcasing vintage machinery powered by water. It’s also a fun stop for families, where kids can make their own paper by dipping a screen into a rag pool, taking home a hands-on souvenir.Ravello, perched 1,000 feet above the Mediterranean, offers a serene and breathtaking escape with its lush terraces and panoramic views. The town is most famous for its vistas, but it also boasts some wonderful sights. Villa Rufolo, built within the ruins of a noble family’s palace, offers beautiful gardens surrounded by ancient stone walls, with views that will take your breath away. The villa also hosts classical concerts in the spring and fall, creating a magical setting for live music. Another highlight is Villa Cimbrone, a romantic estate with a stunning garden and the famous Terrace of Infinity, which overlooks the sea and is lined with marble busts that seem to watch over the endless horizon. With its ever-changing vistas, the Amalfi Coast is truly a visual feast. Its combination of dramatic cliffs, colorful villages, and sparkling Mediterranean views continue to captivate travelers from around the world. With its mild climate, unique charm, and timeless beauty, the region remains a sought-after destination, offering a chance to experience Italy’s "la dolce vita" lifestyle, where every view feels like a postcard come to life.

The Amalfi Coast is a destination that feels almost dreamlike, offering stunning sunrises over clear blue waters and dramatic cliffs that line the coastline. Each town along the Amalfi Coast boasts its own unique beauty, making this area one of the world’s most captivating travel destinations. This region of Italy has a magical, almost mythical allure. Whether you’re drawn to glitzy spots with a luxurious atmosphere or prefer rustic, authentic Italian charm, each town has its own special appeal. From Agerola and Conca dei Marini to Ravello and Vietri sul Mare, there’s a perfect spot for everyone on the Amalfi Coast.
Positano is often regarded as one of the most scenic spots in the world, known for its romantic atmosphere, vibrant colors, and a relaxed vibe that embodies *La Dolce Vita*. The town’s steep, winding streets are lined with lush vines and flowers, especially wisteria, which bloom in abundance in spring. Its terracotta-roofed houses seem to spill down the cliffside, creating a postcard-perfect scene above the Tyrrhenian Sea. In Positano, visitors can indulge in leisurely breakfasts, fresh seafood lunches, and quiet moments sipping coffee or wine while soaking in the stunning views.
Positano’s charming seaside, with its vibrant umbrellas and tranquil waters, offers the perfect backdrop for a relaxing day. Between dips in the sea, visitors can browse art galleries and boutique shops or simply enjoy the magnificent sunset views that make this town unforgettable. Positano also makes a great base for exploring the Amalfi Coast. Take a private boat along the coastline or venture to the beautiful island of Capri for a memorable day trip. Positano is ideal for couples, especially those on a honeymoon or romantic getaway. Summer is peak season, so it’s bustling with visitors. For a quieter experience, consider visiting early in the morning or after day-trippers have left.
The town’s steep streets and many steps make it less suitable for travelers with mobility issues or families with young children. As a luxury destination, booking a stay in Positano usually requires advance planning—aim to reserve your spot at least six months ahead if you want to secure the best options.
At the center of this enchanting coastal region lies Amalfi, a charming seaside town that serves as an ideal base for exploring the surrounding areas. Historically, Amalfi was a powerful maritime rival to cities like Genoa and Venice. Today, it’s a lively destination with a scenic beach and a variety of welcoming cafes and restaurants. Amalfi’s grand cathedral, located in the heart of the town, is an architectural and cultural highlight. A stroll to the cathedral takes you through the town’s narrow medieval streets and picturesque alleyways, giving you a glimpse into its storied past.
The town boasts some of the best beaches along the Amalfi Coast, with a mix of sandy coves and pebbled shores. If you prefer a quieter spot, a short walk to Atrani reveals a more laid-back beach experience, away from the summer crowds. Thanks to its central position, Amalfi is perfect for day trips by both land and sea. From Amalfi’s main port, local buses travel to Ravello and other nearby destinations, while car rentals are available for those seeking more flexibility. With its unique combination of beach relaxation and rich historical sites, Amalfi is ideal for those who want both leisure and culture. Its gentler slopes make it more accessible for families with young children or anyone with limited mobility.
Ravello is a refined and stylish town perched 365 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking views. Known for its artistic and cultural appeal, Ravello has long attracted artists and famous figures like D.H. Lawrence, Truman Capote, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. The noble villas of Ravello are a major draw, with Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrione standing out as must-visit spots. Villa Rufolo, built in the 13th century, is known for its stunning gardens and hosts public events year-round. Higher up, Villa Cimbrione boasts the famous Terrace of Infinity, providing panoramic views of the coastline and featuring a Michelin-starred restaurant, Il Flauto di Pan.
Ravello’s absence of a beachfront contributes to its serene, exclusive atmosphere, making it an appealing escape for those who prefer a more tranquil setting than the busier coastal towns.
Just a stone’s throw from Amalfi, Atrani offers a slower pace of life. As the smallest town on the Amalfi Coast, it provides a refreshing contrast to its busier neighbors. Nestled along a cliffside, Atrani is a charming fishing village with a lovely beach and an inviting selection of rustic cafes and restaurants. Atrani’s narrow streets wind down toward the sandy beach, dotted with cozy local eateries where fresh seafood is always on the menu. The laid-back atmosphere makes Atrani a perfect choice for those looking to unwind or for families seeking a calm getaway.
